C. 8 points
three quarters, , three dimensions of the circle,
tonight all are perfectly balanced on this axis that is our covenstead.
1. North, Midnight
Midnight! Still point of the spinning earth,
fixed upon your pole star.
We feel your magnetic pull in our bones
in the architecture of our Minds.
On the longest night, you are our beacon.
O, come and be our Compass.
2. West, Sunset
Sunset! Primordial waters of the worlds beyond,
Flood into us from the ancient abyss.
We feel your waves crash and ebb in the beating of our hearts,
in the turbulent sea of our emotions.
The long night’s Wild Hunt is your delight!
O, Come and be our Cauldron.
3. East, Sunrise
Sunrise! Gilded aurora of the new day,
bursting forth from the dawn’s horizon.
We sense your stirring with every nerve
in the vital hum of our Bodies.
This is the morning of your increase.
O, come and be our Spindle.
4. Above
Above! the etheric void,
the magic of the unknowable oblivion.
We sense your limitlessness in our dreams,
in the infinite expanse of our unconscious.
Seasonless expanse, lend us your perspective.
O, come and be our Veil.
5. Below
Below! the earth’s warm depths,
into which all things descend and emerge.
We feel your weight in the pit of stomachs,
in the ravenous rumblings of our Instincts.
Welcome us into the halls of the Underworld.
O, come and be our Altar.
6. South, Center
Center! Roaring blaze of undiluted force,
zenith of the noontide sun.
We feel your heat in our blood
in the smouldering potential our Will.
This is the season of your repose.
O come and be our, Blade.
7. Around
Without! Our triangle’s edge,
embracing all that is lit by your orb.
We hear your echo in our breath,
in the temple of our Souls.
Soothe our turbulent spirits.
Border of the betwixt and between, the solstice is your delight.
O, come and be our Mirror.
8. Center
Within! Perchta! Hulda! Frau Holle! Hela!
Maiden of fate’s spinning wheel, Queen of the Old Forest, sovereign Crone of the shades in the halls of Helheim.
Converge upon this crossroad.
We hear you speak our true names
into the center of ourselves.
Here is the fulcrum upon which the season is marked!
O, come and be our Key.
III. Circle, chant
A.Masks
B. Raise circle, light fire
“we are the spindle, we are the thread
We are the white, the black, the red”
IV. Spindle ritual (source)
We honor you, Frau Holle, the Goddess of Winternights. As this spindle is passed is around, spend some time to quietly think about your needs and concerns and offer them silently to Frau Holle with your thanks. When you feel ready, pass the spindle to your neighbor, holding the thread until the last of us is finished.
Now, one by one, as you gently let the thread go, passing it back to the spindle, let go of your worries, trusting that your needs shall be met, and trust Holle to give you some response in the weeks ahead.
(wind the spindle again, and holds it above the well.)
Frau Holle, accept our sacrifice!
All: Frau Holle, accept our sacrifice!
(drop spindle in well)
